About
Hi! Welcome to Conlanged, my conlanger’s blog!
What is conlanging, you ask? Conlang is short for constructed language. Basically it means that someone invented and constructed their own artificial language. Someone who does this is called a conlanger.
Conlangers invent languages for various reasons. Some do it as an intellectual or philosophical exercise, under such auspices as creating the “perfect” language, or a philosophical language that expresses the most pure and perfect ideas easily. Others might invent a fictional language for a book, story, or role-play that they are doing. Some languages that have gained notoriety include Tolkien’s Elvish, or Star Trek’s Klingon. Other times, a conlang, also known as an auxlang, is constructed under the ideal of building the perfect “international” language, one that everyone in the world can use to communicate with in perfect peace and harmony!
I am trying to invent my own conlang. I first got interested in it when I heard about languages like Esperanto while studying linguistics. The idea of creating my language from scratch completely appealed to me. It just sounded so cool! Then recently, my advisor at the college I attend, suggested that for my final semester I craft a thesis project. What better topic to do than conlanging?
For this blog, I’ll post my reflections on this project, as well as progress on the project and mini “lessons” on my new conlang. Who knows, maybe someone will think my conlang is cool.
So let me know what you guys think! Any advice is great, especially from any linguists or fellow conlangers in the audience out there.
